Website Is Down: First Things to Check

If your website is not loading at all, here are the first things to check before assuming the whole site is broken.

HELP-0086 CATEGORY: Troubleshooting

A website being “down” can mean a few different things. It may not load at all, it may show an error page, it may time out, or it may only be unavailable on one device or network.

Before assuming the entire website is broken, check whether the issue is happening only for you or for everyone. Try opening the site on another device, another browser, or a mobile connection instead of Wi-Fi. If the site works elsewhere, the issue may be local rather than server-wide.

If the site is unavailable everywhere, the most common causes are hosting issues, domain or DNS problems, expired services, server overload, or a recent technical change that caused a failure. In some cases, security rules or maintenance mode can also make the site appear offline.

It also helps to note exactly what you see. A blank page, timeout, security warning, or specific error message can all point to different causes.

If the issue is affecting everyone and the website does not load at all, contact us and include the website address, the time you noticed the issue, a screenshot if possible, and the exact message on screen. That gives us a faster starting point and helps reduce guesswork.
